What are Dental X-Rays?
Dental x-rays, sometimes referred to as radiographs, are important diagnostic tools that help us see underlying bone and tooth structure. The x-ray technology we use in-office utilizes a minimal amount of radiation so they are completely safe. A small sensor will be placed inside the mouth and the larger x-ray head will be placed outside the mouth angled towards the sensor. The xx-ray is taken and the image captured will develop immediately on the computer screen. Once all the x-rays have been taken Dr. Mallipeddi will examine them. All x-rays are saved to compare with at future appointments and monitor certain conditions.

When and Why are X-Rays Needed
We recommend x-rays once a year and a complete set every 3 to 5 years. Even if there is not a profound problem, these images allow us to see issues that may become larger if they go untreated. Likewise, we may recommend x-rays before surgery or other in-depth procedures. Emergency appointments almost always require x-rays because we need to identify the underlying problem that is causing you pain or discomfort.

I highly recommend family dental in Biddeford, me. I’ve always been very nervous about going to get dental work done. Here it’s been a pleasant and pain free experience.

Who Can X-Rays Be Taken On?
X–rays can be safely taken on patients of all ages due to the low amount of radiation produced. However, before having x-rays taken, we will go over your health and medical history with you. A lead apron will be used to cover your body while x-rays are being taken to further protect from any radiation.

What happens when you have Dental X-Rays taken?
You will be greeted by one of our friendly staff members and seated comfortably in our office. We will begin by positioning a small device inside of the mouth and a larger machine is angled towards this device. The x-ray is taken and the image will develop immediately on our computer screens. Once the x-rays have been taken, our doctor will examine them to check for any problems. Your x-rays will be compared at future appointments so that we can diagnose and monitor certain conditions.
If you are ready to come into our office for dental x-rays, call us today and we will schedule a convenient appointment for you and your loved ones.
