What are fillings?
A composite (tooth-colored) filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, etc. Composite fillings are tooth-colored alternatives to the traditional metal fillings you might be accustomed to. You can feel comfortable knowing composite fillings are completely metal free. This filling material better mimics the look of your actual teeth, allowing the filling to blend seamlessly into the rest of your smile. If you ever need a filling, you can feel confident the appearance of your smile will not be compromised.

Why are fillings needed?
To determine if you need a filling, an exam and x-rays will be required. You may need fillings if you have cavities, gum recession, old metal fillings that should be replaced or deep grooves in your teeth. If some of these conditions are left untreated they can lead to severe problems such as pain, infection and tooth loss.

I highly recommend family dental in Biddeford, me. I’ve always been very nervous about going to get dental work done. Here it’s been a pleasant and pain free experience.

What makes you a candidate for Dental Fillings?
Before a filling is placed, you will come into our office for an examination. In some cases, a dental x-ray is necessary to help us find cavities. If a cavity is found, you will be advised to have a filling. The procedure is quick and easy, Furthermore, the procedure only requires local anesthetic so that it is safe for most patients.

What happens during the procedure for fillings?
If needed a local anesthetic is administered to numb the area for your comfort. The decay is carefully removed from the tooth, creating a hole. Next, the hole is thoroughly cleaned and dried. A bonding agent is placed and cured using a specialized curing light. The composite material is molded into place by Dr Mallipeddi using specialized tools. The composite is cured until fully hardened, then polished and smoothed to your comfort.
